Finding Some Balance

If David patterns next weekend after this weekend, he will need to put door hardware on his list of things to get. He didn't give the trucking company his weekend like he normally does, and hit a few projects around the house. Actually, outside, so it technically, he didn't work around the house. But he did take some badly needed "me" time and worked on some projects that he talked about needing to be done for awhile now, had even bought all the stuff to get it done with -- just was waiting until he had the free time to do it. However, the way he works, there was no free time. He works in the office all day, and into the evening, And the weekends, when all the trucks were home, he would work on them, changing tires, lightbulbs, simple mechanical problems. Finally, he said enough is enough, and did what he should have done a long time ago. Weekends are for him. And hopefully, he sees now the trucks don't need his whole weekend, and he find some balance here.

Slowing Down

I love the way David's dad thinks. He owns a variety-type store called the "StopLight Store" (he's on the corner of main street, where there is the one of the two stoplights in town). To draw people in, they drag merchandise out on the sidewalk everyday. Very often, it is office furniture -- office chairs, filing cabinets, stuff like that. He doesn't make a bundle of money, but he does buy everything cheap (he is an auction buyer from way back),and so he is able to sell everything half way cheap. He threatens to sell the store every so often; but then he'll have a good day, and his spirits bounce back. He'll probably be doing this until the day he dies. He's been doing it most of his life, and I don't see him stopping down. He hasn't even slowed down much!

Just Didn't Look Right

I think our son just saved us $400. We bought a new TV and tv stand this summer -- the TV was a Westinghouse, so we thought it was a good brand. But there are times, when we are watching TV, the images are horrible. So we decided that we had bought a lemon of a TV. But our son was over here the other day, and when he saw the images, he says "so your TV does that too". He used to live in Emporia, and has just recently moved to this town, and the TV is the same as what he had when he lived in Emporia. Because of what he noticed, we have come to the conclusion that its our cable company, and not our TV, which is a good thing, because we were ready to get a different TV. Maybe with the conversion to digital this month things will improve.

Left Behind

When my mom passed away, we had alot to go through, alot to get rid of, and alot that we kept. Esp. some of the bigger stuff. One of the things that we kept, and I still use, some 5 years later, is her recliner. She had several seat lifts to help her get out of her chair. She wasn't as bad as my aunt, who had a harder time getting around because of her diabetis and the nueropothy in her feet, but nonetheless, the added help was appreciated. I'm not old, (well, ok, don't ask my kids, they will tell you otherwise), but I am overweight -- and have problems with my feet and ankles swelling on certain days. The added help to get up out of the recliner is a God send and I send a whisper of a thank you to my mom. I would give anything to still have her here -- forget the chair. But, since she is not, I am grateful for what she left behind.

I Don't LIke Winter

So far, we haven't had much snow. Some icy conditions, but only a few days of snow, a few days of dusting of snow, and many days of just cold cold days. I have some blog friends who live in the Carolinas, and I don't think the Outer Banks are fairing any better. The temps may not have dipped down as low there as it did here, but still, to them, and what they are used to, its been cold cold cold for them as well. I get like this every year. I am so ready for spring to get here. I can handle spring and fall. I don't like summer, but I can handle it. Winter and all of its elements can go away. I don't. like. winter.
