Sharing A Computer

I am so glad we have 3 laptops between us. I know that is bad to say; but it seems like one of them is always in the shop. Actually, now that I think about it, I think its the same one we keep sending. At any rate, one of them went down this weekend. It won't stay on. I'm sure I haven't reached the notebook memory capacity, but even if I have, I have an external hard drive that we had just dumped everything on to right before it died. We didn't get the stuff on the internal hard drive deleted, but if we have lost everything that was on that computer, we are still in good shape. It just gets frustrating though, to continuously have problems with it. And it seems like the problems stem around the battery. Maybe we need to check into what a new batter will cost. Although, if the computer is plugged into electricity most of the time, we shouldn't have problems with the battery, right? I don't know, but that seems to be where the problems stem from. We'll see what our tech team has to say about it this time. I'm just glad we have another laptop to fall back on. It would be kinda tense around here if we all had to share one computer .... or worse yet, no computer at all!

Too Close For Comfort

David was not impressed when we went to get insurance for our new-to-us vehicle last month. $1000 a year. Because they didn't make very many of this particular model. He thought about looking around for another car insurance quote, but we have been with this company forever, and we have our house insurance with them as well. To add insult to injury, we almost needed to use said insurance last weekend. We came this | | close to having an accident. We had gone to Topeka for Christmas with David's daughters, and then lunch and shopping afterwards. While we were eating, it started snowing. As time went on, it go slick. But. We were up there, so we continued on our way, doing what we needed to do. At one point,a car pulled out from a side street. When David applied brakes, of course we started sliding. How he kept from hitting her is beyond me. He also took the side of a ditch as well to avoid hitting her, and I thought we were going to roll. But we got out of the situation unscathed. Shaken, but unscathed. and unmarked. Which, I was thankful for. We just traded off a vehicle that had scrape marks and a dent (thanks to Ethan).

Helping The Retail Economy

People ask me if I ventured out after Thanksgiving and hit any of the sales. I don't like shopping in stores on a GOOD day. There is no way you could get me out in the middle of the night and stand in line for shopping. However. Give me a computer, an internet line, and Cyber Monday and I will shop to my hearts content. I love shopping on line, and I hope I did my share of helping the retail economy with my online purchases. I know alot of people are afraid of shopping online, but I have never had any problems with it. It truly is the way to go. I'm hoping next year to do more on line for Christmas, and have it all done instead of waiting until a few days before to finish up and having to fight the crowds. Not my cup of tea.

A Twinge Of Envy

I know Ethan really loved what he got for Christmas, but I'm sure he felt a twinge of jealousy when his little nephews opened gifts containing a PS3 system and games. A game system was on his wish list, but his top gift on the list pretty much used up what we were willing to spend. And, if he could only have one or the other, he is happy with what he got. And, as he said, if he wants to play on the PS3, all he has to do is go over to his nephew's house some weekend, and he can play over there. Between work and school, (and homework!), Ethan doesn't have much extra time to play. But still. I know it would have been nice to have found the game system under the tree along side what we actually did get him. But. When you have 5 children, 6 grandchildren, parents, each other, and friends ... money only goes so far. You set a plan in place, and we pretty much stuck to it. And. Ethan works. He has money coming in. If he truly wants it, he can save HIS money and buy it.

Getting The Best Of Me

I'm thinking I should tell Santa that I would like to find some diet pills under the tree. These next couple of weeks are filled with lots of family get togethers with an over abundance of food in store. Something to help curb the temptation to over indulge would be nice. Besides the Christmas festivities there is also a birthday to be celebrated (David's 49th), which will probably find us at a nice meal out. We are also celebrating Christmas that Saturday with his daughter's, so will need to figure out the agenda for the day. New Year's Eve is also alot of fun, with lots of yummy snacks and drinks to bring in the New Year. Now would be a good time to get a plan in place, and stick to it as we go through these new few days, or they will end up getting the best of me.
